Solefald (Norway) - Demo '95

And back to Black! At least description-wise, because in my eyes Solefald's only demo "Jernlov" from 1995 doesn't have that much of a 'typical' Black Metal-atmosphere, it's more the instrumentation and the vocals that lead to this path. Musically it's a kind of eerie, at times bombastic (by the meaning of the word!) Metal that just lets me sit down and listening with closed eyes. Interesting was (is) their philosophical lyrical conception, and I always found it a refreshing variation to the Xth "Satansatansatan"-image. At least guys that made up their own mind!

This demo was (to my knowledge) re-released on CD, but here it's the same case as with my post of the Primordial-demo: it's a personal rip of an old tape of mine. Don't know the sound of the re-release, but the murkiness and nebulosity of my traded tape's sound adds very much to the atmosphere. At least for me it does! Enjoy!

And another quick one: 2-track-demo 1995 "Blasphemy and Fire... A Prelude" by ENTASIS from Down Under. They released 2 demotapes prior to this, if anyone has them... would be interested to listen to! M.A. also lists a compilation-CD of the 2 demos (http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Entasis/15034#band_tab_discography), but the tracklists do not really match to the demos so...
This third one here reminds me on the 'typical' Aussie-sound of Destroyer666/B.Warlust and the likes (Marcus Hellcunt recorded at least the drums on the 1st and 2nd demo), but not as outrageous. Nevertheless good stuff to listen to!

Well, as it seems by now also MF decides to fuck me in the guts, I'll go for Multi as strad, at least this one works (curious how long!). Don't know if anyone else has problems with MF or MU - my accounts are still active, but I can't upload for whatever reasons. Well, FUCK it. (Just for info, nearly all my old MF-links are still active however.)

Returning so with some chaotic Czech stuff by DERAT, their only demo from 1990. I had this rip floating around for quite a while now on my computer (don't know who ripped this, thanx to the one who did!) - it's in 128k, but quite listenable! Well, apart from the original sound of the tape which is, to be honest, quite inferior, but fitting for this angry fucker! Wicked and loose Death/Thrash/proto-Grind would come to my mind if describing... Get it here!

Its been a long time that I dont publish anything here due to some personal problems, but now I decided to post a request for you all, and not any old demo tape: Nuclear War Now Prods is going to release Necrobutcher's demos (my old band, for those who dont know it) in CD and vynil format very soon, with an excellent quality. The only problem is that I dont have any original photos of my own band. So, I'm looking eagerly with all my contacts to know if someone has got a picture or a good quality photocopy to send to me or to Yosuke (NWN! Prods). Staying a while in the late 90's to continue the GBK-post, here's some pretty cool Death Metal from the land of Uruguay with Ossuary. Their "We await the secret conspiracy"-EP was released on tape in 1998, bringing 4 own tracks (2 recorded in the studio, 2 recorded live) and a cover of Sarcófago's "The Laws of Scourge" which at the end of the song melts with the eerie beginning of "Nightmare". Overall a tape nice to listen to, even if (for my taste) the triggered drum sound is a bit of a disadvantage. But decide for yourself, Death Metal-freaks will definitely sink something out of this. Ripped from my copy, file includes pics of front & back.

Brutal Times Chilean Fanzine 1990

It was 1990, in Chile the thrash metal scene was declining and the death metal scene was becoming the main stronghold of extreme underground music. This fanzine, called Brutal Times, edited by Roberto Martí and Ronald Plaza is a good witness to that period. It covers excellent interviews to legendary international bands such as Invocator, Samael, Brain Death, Unleashed, Grave, Tormentor, Merciless, Pestilence, Carbonized, Desultory, Order from Chaos, Funeral Nation, Necrophobic, Deadhead, Malevolent Creation… and Artillery!!!!!! All of it in Spanish of course… unfortunately, there is very little space for Chilean bands, and the only local bands are Belial, Torturer, Darkness, interviews in which you can sense the change of time (that year dictatorship was over and the new democracy disappointed everyone).

The questions of the interviews are common places (tell us about the band, any plans for the future, how’s the reception to you demo, etc.), save for a few absolutely off the wall crazy as f**k questions that make me wonder if the editors were actually on something while making the interviews. Questions such as Are you a Catholic or a Mormon? You have any friend who turned out to be a priest? Do you like pornography? What are your favourite vices? How’s your sexual life these days? Do you practice sports? What do you think of communism? Did you ever think of becoming a priest? Are you actually dead, would you like to die? What do you think of tarot? What do you do at night time? What do you think of the army? Would you like to be in prison? Are you a racist? Are you an alcoholic? Would you like to have AIDS? Would you consider to be a pervert? (at that point, if I was being interviewed, I would actually crush the fucker’s face!) Fill the pages of this fanzine… apart from the fact that I see little point for these questions at all, I have to admit that it makes interesting reading to see the responses from the bands (and shed some light on unusual aspects of them as well)

International bands were frequently asked if they knew anything about the Chilean scene: Pentagram, Necrosis, Warpath, Sadism, Atomic Aggressor, Torturer came up time and again. Finally, I was very surprised to see how much many death metallers enjoyed glam rock and Bon Jovi & Poison (US glam posers, not German metalheads)! A couple of them think (thought) they are great!!!!

They only had two issues... the second issue would have the name changed into Spanish to "Tiempo Brutal"...

Grand Belial's Key - Rehearsal and Live

Now to please comrade Velkaarn's desire, here's the promised GBK-stuff (if someone's wondering, the logo used here is their first one out of an old 'zine).
First is a rehearsal dating from Nov. 28, 1998. The sound is better than I first remembered, though perhaps coming from an audio rip of a VHS-tape. Still very listenable for rehearsal-trained ears, although a bit thin. It sounds like a "rehearsalroom-gig", playing a set in front of just some friends, as you hear some "Yeeeaah! Aaarrrrgg!" between the songs, obviously coming from, I would say max. 5 guys. After the first couple of songs there's some strange static noise throughout the rest of the rehearsal, which is partly annoying when focusing on it, but I got used to it after a while. Unfortunately the last song cuts, I think the tape was running out at this moment.
Second is the said "Live Oct. 28 (20?), 2000" in completion (audience recording). Still unclear is the exact date and venue (North Arlington, NJ or Arlington, TX?) - if someone has further information, please leave a note. Thanx!
In the meantime, listen to some recordings of GBK's strongest phase of existence (at least in my opinion), as Cazz Grant/The Black Lourde Of Crucifixion was an absolutely fantastic drummer! And still is as he goes strong to this day with CRUCIFIER.

After a longer hiatus, I'll be posting some stuff the next time again!

But starting with no own content (and the next posts will be for pal Velkaarn), just an advertisement (hehe!) to a fucking awesome blog I stumpled across per accident, named http://oldtapesandrandomnoises.blogspot.com/ ! The Sir, the owner, is posting a lot of stuff out of his old boxes full of tapes that are crowded with (exclusively?) Finnish obscure, never-ever-heard-stuff. Old demos, bootlegs, rehearsals and the likes. He has already posted some very interesting elder demos (f.e. by the Finnish MAYHEM), so demotape-addicted madmen like myself will definitely get out something of this cool blog!

Imagine a sort of elder Priest/Maiden with a heavy Speed Metal-spin, and one of the most outstanding vocals I heard in a long time - this comes not too close, but I'm reminded of (partly) Tim Baker and Martin Walkyier in one person... sounds really strange, but please download this forgotten jewel, it's worth 10times!!! This music has to be spread, and I think this is exactly the idea behind Lockjaw! (btw, yappy what's up? Everything's going fine? Cheerz!!!)

And if ANYONE of you maniacs outthere perhaps have anything (live-recording, rehearsal etc) by HARLOT, please leave a note!! I'm a bit too enthusiastic about it at the moment, but I can't help it, haha!
