dude! i was fucking there! and it was DES MOINES! THATS WHERE THE FAIRGROUND IS!! i played little league there and the fair was always held during my birthday...i used to live about more than a mile form up the road and in the earlier eyars of the jam like 78 you could actually HEAR it! yes i believe dokken was a part of that line up as well..i also went in 85 when ted nugent was allowed to return to iowa after the gov banned him from what he said four years prior...place went nuts...i was 15 and scared shitless...anyway thanks for the memories

Wow! Whatever happened to the Iowa Jams? I went in the late 70s and early 80's. It was my first experiences with concerts. I watched Don Kirchners rock concerts every Saturday night in the late 70's. Finally found out what it was all about. I remember in between shows when the stage crew was setting up they played Highway to Hell, this was shortly after Bon Scott had died. The crowd went nuts as if it was live.
The first year I went if I can blow off the cobwebs was
Off Broadway/Toto/Babys/Molly Hatchet/Journey...The next one I can barely recall was: Quarterflash/Iron Maiden/38Special/Triumph/Loverboy. I never attended another all day Jam like that until the late 80's in KC for Monsters of Rock:Kingdom Cum?/Dokken/Metallica/Scorpions/
Van Hagar. If ya ever want to party like everyone did back in the hair band days,(mid70's-late80's) go to Sturgis for the week and go to the Buffalo Chip campground.
Hell, just check out the web site and you'll see.
